Downtime Notice - Winter Break 2018

Hello,

Starting on December 20, 2018 around 8:00PM, main authentication servers for ACM website are going down for maintenance. This service is expected to be down for the majority of the Winter Break as SysAdmins upgrade and update servers/services.

Affected services:

  • AD Authentication
  • ACM services requiring ACM usernames

Further updates will be posted here as more services stabilize.

Downtime Notice - November 3-4, 2018

ACM Servers and Network will be going down for maintenance on November 3, 2018 and November 4, 2018. Services are expected to return no later than November 5, 2018 @ 6:00am CDT. Sysadmins will be performing critical maintenance.

[UPDATED] Downtime Notice: acm.cs.uic.edu [September 27, 2018]

Hello,

On September 27, 2018 around 3:00PM, an unforeseen change caused the main acm.cs.uic.edu website to become inaccessible/slow. 

Affected services:

  • The website: acm.cs.uic.edu.
  • ACM Email may be delayed.

At this time, acm.cs.uic.edu and related services should be back up.  A recent change by ACCC caused routing to be treated differently, causing some traffic to be routed out of incorrect interfaces.  These issues has since been resolved.

Downtime Notice: acm.cs.uic.edu [September 20-21]

Hello,

On September 20, 2018 around 6:00PM, a change by a SysAdmin caused an unexpected power outage causing major downtime. 

Affected services:

  • All services hosted on acm.cs.uic.edu.
  • ACM owned subdomains and services.

We have brought back up the majority of services on acm.cs.uic.edu and bypassed other servers with issues.

Downtime Notice: GitLab [June 27-August 4, 2018]

The GitLab instance hosted on acm.cs.uic.edu/git will be undergoing maintenance on July 27, 2018. The site is expected to be live on August 4, 2018

LUG Members will be testing a new infrastructure setup.  GitLab will be inaccessible throughout this period.  LUG members will update this post if further updates are needed.

NOTICE: Unexpected Service Disruption - July 14-16, 2018

Hello,

On July 14, 2018 around 1:00PM, SysAdmins noticed authentication and acm.cs.uic.edu became inaccessible.  From initial investigation, the HVAC system was suffering an unexpected water shutoff.  The main AC unit in the server room is not functioning, allowing temperatures to rise in excess of 116°F.

SysAdmins have contacted the appropriate parties to help resolve this issue. We expect this issue to be resolved by Monday, July 16, 2018.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Due to high temperatures, ACM/LUG services will be running in limited capacity.  The majority of servers will be powered down for the weekend to mitigate any catastrophic hardware failures.

Currently affected services:

  • All services hosted on acm.cs.uic.edu.
    • Including, but not limited to the following:
      • Email Services
      • Hosting Services
      • Secure Shell
      • GitLab
      • IRC
      • Mailing Lists
  • Monitor Wall
  • ACMAPP Kubernetes Cluster

  • Test Servers
  • Non-critical subdomain machines

NOTICE: Unexpected Service Disruption - June 5, 2018

Hello,

On June 5, 2018 around 1:30PM, senior SysAdmins noticed an issue with DNS records pertaining to acm.cs.uic.edu.  From initial investigation, the DNS record is now being overridden by UIC DNS records. At this time, acm.cs.uic.edu is not currently accessible due to an incorrect DNS configuration.  The cause for this change is still unknown.

SysAdmins have contacted the appropriate parties to help resolve this issue, however we do not currently have an ETA of when this issue will be fixed.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Services requiring the acm.cs.uic.edu domain will unfortunately  be inaccessible at this time.

Currently affected services:

  • All services hosted on acm.cs.uic.edu.
    • Including, but not limited to the following:
      • Email Services
      • Hosting Services
      • Secure Shell
      • GitLab
      • IRC
      • Mailing Lists

As a temporary solution, you may use lug.cs.uic.edu to resolve to the same server. (e.g.: If you need to SSH into our servers, do so with lug.cs.uic.edu)
